Mobility in Iceland

The first mobility of the Global Goals Enquiry project took place in Reykjavik during the week of November 19th to 23rd. The theme for the mobility was industry, innovation and infrastructure – inspired by UN’s Global Goal 9.

On the first day participants arrived and were taken to their headquarters at the local sports center. Early next morning the groups met at Borgarholtsskóli (BHS) to have a nice breakfast. Then the whole group went on to visit the Icelandic Innovation Center which is located right near the school. Some introduction to the Center and exiting assignment had been lined up by Hannes and Eyjólfur. They are both experts on innovation and entrepreneurship and work for the Center.

After the visit the group went back to BHS. After a lovely lunch the students introduced their countries and schools for each other and then went on to Egilshöll which is another local sports hall and home to the athletic training for BHS students. After that it was time to go home to the hostel.

Day two revolved around the Global Goals workshop. Since all the classrooms in Borgarholtsskóli were in use at the time we had to borrow a nice hall at a nearby library. The students worked hard on their assignment and did a very nice job presenting many interesting ideas.

On the third day the group travelled around the Reykjanes peninsula. Lot of interesting places related to the theme of the mobility were visited. Reykjanes Power Plant was one and the students had the opportunity to look at real entrepreneurship put to practice.

After the trip the group went back to BHS for a big farewell pizza party and had the opportunity to reflect on the project. The next mobility, hosted by Estonia in Kuressaare, was introduced in few words. The day after the participants headed on home.
